Description

Dissent, Protest and Change

Part of the Back to the 80s series at Bishopsgate Institute

Saturday 22 September, 2.30pm

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion”, declared philosopher Albert Camus. The 1980s was a period abundant with such acts of rebellion. When are expressions of dissent justified, in which form and to what degree? From as early as the classical age and most specifically in the 19th century, philosophers have reflected on dissent and protest. Through a discussion of their ideas, we will explore 1980s revolutions in thought and politics.
